Stability Characterizations of Fixtured Rigid Bodies with Coulomb Friction

چکیده
This paper formally introduces several stability characterizations of £xtured three-dimensional rigid bodies initially at rest and in unilateral contact with Coulomb friction. These characterizations, weak stability and strong stability, arise naturally from the dynamic model of the system, formulated as a complementarity problem. Using the tools of complementarity theory, these characterizations are studied in detail to understand their properties and to develop techniques to identify the stability classi£cations of general systems subjected to known external loads.

Stability Analysis of Discontinuous Systems with Impacts and Friction via Sums-of-Squares
Michael Posa and Russ Tedrake Massachusetts Institute of Technology email: mposa, russt at mit.edu 1 Motivation Many critical tasks in robotics, particularly locomotion, involve collisions between a rigid body and the environment or between multiple bodies. Sums-of-squares (SOS) based methods for numerical computation of Lyapunov certificates are a powerful tool for analyzing the stability of c...
متن کاملdvc3D: a three dimensional physical simulation tool for rigid bodies with contacts and Coulomb friction
In this paper, we introduce a physical simulation library for three-dimensional for multi-rigid-bodies dynamics with contacts and Coulomb friction named dvc3d. The library focuses on time stepping simulation methods that have been justified in theories to converge to the underlying physical models as step size goes to zero. We further verify dvc3D’s simulation accuracy by comparing with experim...
متن کامل6D frictional contact for rigid bodies
We present a new approach to modeling contact between rigid objects that augments an individual Coulomb friction point-contact model with rolling and spinning friction constraints. Starting from the intersection volume, we compute a contact normal from the volume gradient. We compute a contact position from the first moment of the intersection volume, and approximate the extent of the contact p...
متن کاملRealtime Rigid Body Simulation Using Impulses
Using impulses for rigid body simulation is rapidly becoming a standard method for realtime simulations. This paper discusses how impulses can be used for modeling both collision and contact between rigid bodies when using the coulomb friction model. Time stepping techniques are also discussed including an example method optimized specifically for handling large numbers of simultaneous collisio...
متن کاملA new tool to investigate the interactions between elastic fibers and rigid bodies
This paper presents a new tool which makes it possible to find the spatial configuration of a system featuring elastic fibres interacting with each other and/or with rigid bodies. The configuration is determined by means of the principle of the minimum elastic potential energy of the system, ignoring Coulomb friction at the contacts. In particular, the paper reports both the elastic fiber model...
